Mile Action Sets Off CMDRA Season -
June 10/07 |
|

|
First-time
winner Jim Schellenberg (Top Fuel) was the big victor at the
CMDRA Season Opener in Ashcroft, BC on May 19-20.
The event was contested on the 1/8 mile due to the lack of
concrete barriers down track (a past issue with the CMDRA
at Ashcroft), and despite threatening weather, the CMDRA's
best put on their usual sight and sounds specatcle for all
in attendance.

Recordbooks
rocked at Hindle Streetbike Shootout! -
Oct. 16/06 |
|
|
Chicago AMA/PROSTAR and Pro Street/Shootout hitter Phil Stoll
took the win and set new benchmarks on Canadian turf during
the 2006 HIINDLE
Canadian Fastest Streetbike Shootout
on October 15 at Grand Bend Motorplex.
After
the first date was rained out in August, the event was once
again pushed back - one day - due to the impending threat
of rain and high winds. Despite the delay, some of the best
racers around came out for a chance at the $1000 winner's
prize.

Riding
Ronnie Mitchell's incredible turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa, Stoll
made the fastest street-tired pass ever made on Canadian soil with
a 7.47 at 194.38 MPH. Michigan's Lonnie Angel rode his RCC Turbos-powered
'Busa to the 2nd spot at 7.88/183, and fellow U.S. racer Jason Broski
made it three in the 7-second zone with a 7.90/188. RCC's Richard
Peppler rode customer 'Canadian Mike' Mildon's 'Busa into the 4th
spot at 8.21/177, spinning severely on the top end. Jeff Bloor put
the Cycle Max/Orient Express ZX-14 into 5th at 8.88/160, followed
by Grand Bend regular Paul Crane (8.88/158), Michigan's Mike Bayes
on a new mild, all-motor ZX-14 (9.19/151), and Steve Pfeil's 'Busa
at 9.40/146 rounding out the top 8.
Round
one saw Stoll, Angel, Broski, Peppler and Crane advance. Stoll got
the bye in round two, while Lonnie Angel ran a hot 7.74 to gun down
Crane and Broski got the best of Peppler. Angel got the bye into
the finals where he would meet Stoll on the defending event champ
Mitchell's bike.
Angel
took the advantage on the tree and looked to be ahead of Stoll in
the first half, but Stoll had the right tuneup and Angel spun on
the top end. Stoll's 7.61/189 was enough for Angel's still impressive
7.88.
Thanks
to all our sponsors again for your support at this year's event!
Thanks also to all the racers and fans who braved the frigid conditions
to come see some unbelievable record setting runs.

CMDRA
Rocks Edmonton! - Aug 19/06 |
|

|
Jason Arkinstall was the quickest of five Top Fuelers in the
6-second zone during qualifying on Saturday with a HUGE 6.54/209,
by far his quickest pass ever. But Sunday belonged to Mike
Scott, who wheeled his Hardcore Racing Harley to the winner's
circle, making 5 consistent passes between 6.97 and 7.09 at
up to 206 MPH. Ron Houniet reached the semis, and barring
anything major, should comfortably wrap up his 11th straight
Top Fuel title at the finals in Mission!
Gord
Smith ran a personal best 7.31 in Pro Mod qualifying but it
was Gary Christopher who got the pole with a red hot 7.26.
The two met in the finals, Smith taking the win at 7.33 and
building a 41-point lead in Pro Mod points with one race to
go. |
Pro
Street action saw Glen Fraser (being tuned by RCC Turbos' Richard
Peppler at Edmonton) rip off a 171 MPH pass, the fastest ever seen
in Western Canada. He set the official record at 169.77 and took
the win in the finals with a 9.24/166 over Ethan Barkley, who was
left on the line with mechanical issues.

CMDRA
Fort St. John - Aug 2/06 |
|
| The
CMDRA made its second annual trip to Fort St. John' BC's Northern
Lights Raceway on July 22-23. After an exciting and promising
debut in '05, this year's event saw lower bike counts, a slippery
racing surface, equipment trouble and a bad top-end crash
result in a weekend that didn't seem to live up to expectations,
despite the valiant work of Mike Scott, Fort St. John staff
& volunteers and the CMDRA.
Toni
Froehling (Washington) had a bad top-end crash after taking
the win over Andy Beauchemin in the Pro Fuel finals, leaving
him with a fractured knee, a broken tibia and a collapsed
lung. He is currently recovering in Seattle.
John
Bryce took the win in Top Fuel with a 7.18. Brian Hall was
the only rider in the sixes during qualifying, running a decent
6.89. Most nitro riders stuggled to make it down track on
a full pass.
Ken
Froese got his second win of the year over Ethan Barkley in
Pro Street. PS racers had to severely detune to find any hook
with their high-HP street-tire combos on the difficult track.

Ron
Houniet ran a new Canadian Top Fuel Harley record with a 6.477-second

Houniet
qualified on the pole for the second race in a row with a
hot 6.59/207, and then ran 6.57/205 and 6.47/213.47 MPH in

CMDRA
Destroyer Class - Who's Showin? -
May 28/06 |
|

|
A
recent post on the CMDRA Messageboard has stirred up some
questions about the potential turnouts for the organization's
new Destroyer class. With races both West and East this year,
the CMDRA has certainly committed to the class. The question
is, will the racers show?
"Harley-Davidson
has sent a list of who will be racing out of their dealers,
and it looks like at least 6 in the West and 8 in the East,"
said the CMDRA's Adele Tompkins. "That is without taking
into consideration the people who bought them privately." |
The
V-Rod Destroyer class has had a fairly successful season so far
in the AHDRA, with 35 entries gunning for the gold in St. Louis
earlier this month and virtually every competitor running in the
9-second zone. Louisiana racer Erik Ryder is currently the big gun
in this class, holding the record at 9.22 seconds and holding on
to a slim 3-point lead in points over perennial hitter Tripp Nobles.
Teams
and dealers have been quiet about who's going to show in both the
East and the West, but with the first event in Medicine Hat coming
up next weekend, we're soon to find out! |

McRae
to Debut Turbo Kawi in 06 -
Jan. 10/05 |
|

|
Former
IDBA/Prostar Top Gas pilot John McRae is set to return to
the strip in 2006 with an impressive turbocharged Kawasaki.
A Turbonetics turbo atop 1325cc's of KZ muscle should be enough
to get McRae into the low 8/high 7-second zone relatively
easy. A unique Hilborn injection system, Orient Express transmission
and a load of other goodies round out a stout overall package.
Expect this thing to fly once the combination is sorted out!

Pollard lit up the scoreboards at the AMA/PROSTAR Pingel Thunder

by a Canadian. It could very well be the first time any Canadian
motorcycle rider has eclipsed 220 MPH.
Pollard's
new MPH record now makes him the quickest AND fastest Canadian
motorcycle drag racer, following h's 6.390-second pass in
Norwalk back in July. |

The

including several generous donations from the business community
of north-eastern B.C. that enabled the CMDRA to DOUBLE the
payouts for the winner in each class. |

Continues Successful Season
- July 29/05 |
|

GoFast

CMDRA
Streetbike Shootout racer Ethan
Barkley continued his outright dominance of
the class by claiming his fourth consecutive win this season
at Northern Lights Raceway in Fort St. John, BC July 23-24.
Barkley's
Walt Healy Suzuki GSX-R1000 has been nearly flawless this
season, flexing the bike's upgrades made during the off-season
with mid 8-second performances. He set a new CMDRA class record
at 8.68-seconds while taking victory in Mission earlier this
month. |
|
He actually ran a quicker 8.56 that couldn't be backed up
for an official record but now stands as the quickest pass
for a street legal motorcycle in Western Canada.
He
followed up the win in Mission with a victory at Fort St.
John, taking out Tom Tourand's Suzuki Hayabusa in the finals,
8.95 to a close 9.28 from Tourand. Barkley looks to ride the
momentum into Edmonton for the CMDRA's second stop at Bud
Park, August 13-14. |

victory in Top Fuel. His 6.390-second, 211.99 MPH first round
blast made him the quickest Canadian on two wheels, eclipsing
the record held by Dan Butters' Northern Storm entry (6.44-seconds). |

went on to defeat Australian Jay Upton in the finals, 6.48/208

into the Top Fuel winner's circle at the CMDRA's first stop
at Mission Raceway Park (Mission, BC). Gartman beat Ron
Houniet in the finals, while Houniet set a new Top
Fuel ET record with an unreal 6.583-second, 213.47 MPH blast
in the second round.
Gord Smith (Pro Modified), Doug
Ainsworth (Modified), Ethan Barkley
(Streetbike Shootout) and Kerry Lockhart
(Super Gas) joined Gartman in the winner's circle in Mission.

Houniet
Grabs ET Records In Mission
- July 18/05 |
|

Photo
by Laura Millsip |
Ron
Houniet (Haney, BC) made Canadian history
by becoming the first Canadian Nitro Harley racer to break
the 6.5-second zone in Canada with a picture-perfect 6.583
@ 213.47mph during eliminations at the CMDRA race in Mission
July 3-4.
That run was enough for a new CMDRA record and was just shy
of his 6.54-second career best run in Vegas last spring. He
also set a new 1/8 mile record on the same pass at 4.31-seconds.

Barkley
Wins SBS in Ashcroft - May 31/05 |
|
 |
2004
CMDRA Streetbike Shootout champ Ethan
Barkley started his quest for a second consecutive
title by winning the CMDRA Season Opener in Ashcroft. Barkley's
nitrous Suzuki GSX-R1000 was the star of the class since the
turbo bikes of Dave Galbiati, Tom Tourand and Gerald Beatch
weren't ready for Ashcroft.
'Our
main intention was to attend this event and acquire more insight
on the set-up of our new MTC multi-stage lock-up clutch and
the |
updated chassis,' Barkley said. After qualifying number one
with a 9.09 and reaching 160 MPH on Saturday, Barkley rolled
over the field on Sunday running bests of 9.02 and 159 MPH.
Barkley should have some serious competition when the CMDRA
makes its way to Edmonton for the next CMDRA race on June 11-12.
'We have always performed exceptionally well there and I will
step it up to the next level for sure,' Barkley noted. 'Both
Galbiati and Tourand will have their bikes up and running, and
Beatch is expected to debut his turbocharged Suzuki GS at this
event as well.' |

Drag-On
VS Hardcore - Round One - May
31/05 |
|
|
The
heated Drag-On Racing vs. Hardcore Racing feud finally made
it to the dragstrip this month after a preseason of trash
talking from both sides.
"Our
biggest goal this season is to kick some Drag-On ass,"
boasted Hardcore Racing pilot Mike
Scott during the preseason. Despite being
a nitro rookie, Scott should be a serious threat in Top Fuel
in 2005. |
|
His rival Ross Cuthbertson
of Drag-On Racing wasn't phased and has his own plans for
'05. "Our original plan was to take the #1 plate from
Mr. Houniet," Cuthbertson said," but we settled
on an even better goal - kicking some Hardcore Racing ass!"
Neither
racer had the weekend they had hoped for in Ashcroft. Both
failed to make a complete run down the track, Cuthbertson's
8.10/157 on Saturday only marginally quicker than Scott's
8.22/155. Both failed to make the cut for the 8-bike field
and left with the same amount of points.
We'll have to wait until Edmonton to see who backs up their
words first!
