The CMDRA beat the torrential rains that have plagued Alberta over the past few weeks and managed to get in a trouble-free weekend of motorcycle drag racing at Bud Park in Edmonton.

In Top Fuel, Ron Houniet made up for his DQ in Ashcroft in a major way by qualifying number one and dominating the 14-bike class, running a best 6.815 and setting a new Bud Park record of 210.XX MPH in eliminations and defeating hometown boy Ken Kent in the finals, 6.82/209 to 7.09/198.

Pro Modified saw some of the wildest action ever, with a total of 5 bikes running well into the 7's. Clint Drabb's wild turbo/NOS Suzuki ran the quickest pass of the weekend with a wall-hugging 7.49 in eliminations, but it was the always deadly Len Darnell and Gord Smith who would meet in a nitrous vs. turbo final round. Smith got the holeshot and held on for the win with a weekend-best 7.56/183 to Darnell's quicker 7.54/176.

Streetbike Shootout was once again the Ethan Barkley show as he was in a class of his own at Bud Park. His 8.70/159 top qualifying pass destroyed his own class record (8.83) but problems on Sunday left him within a hundredth of a second of backing it up. Watch for those mid-8's to flash on the scoreboards in Mission!

Kim Beauchemin got the first win of her short career in her hometown as she rode the Drag-On Racing Modified to victory lane. Her 8.92/142 qualified her tops and she was the only Modified racer in the 8's all weekend. She took out Calgary's Carl Mills in the finals, 9.15/140 to 9.44/140.

The CMDRA heads to Mission, BC on July 2-3 for the third of seven events on the calendar this year.
